The Site

We needed to create a design which simultaneously maximised natural light while shaping itself into a 2m slope and a further 3m high retaining to the rear.
A stone’s throw from the stunning Trigg coastline, this coastal site offered up a generous 634sqm footprint and a 20.1m wide frontage.

A north-facing block meant we were able to capture picturesque ocean views, however this orientation also meant the natural light advantage would come mostly via the façade of the home.

A thorough site assessment and planning of levels was the key to a successful start on this site.

THE BRIEF

Our clients – a couple looking to downsize while still catering to a tribe of 18 grandchildren – sought an instantly cosy coastal home equipped for casual drop-ins and family staycations.
The home we created offers a functional and free-flowing floor plan, which lends itself to a relaxed vibe.

With a palette inspired by the WA coast, we utilised natural timbers, raw elements, and neutral tones to enhance a sense of casual chic, while infusing various textural experiences throughout the home.

The jewel in the home’s crown, the master suite presides from the upper floor, drinking in the ocean views. With future planning in mind, a second grand master suite to the lower floor provides the option for single level living in later life.

THE EXECUTION

We spent the time to understand our clients’ lifestyle and budget requirements, which allowed us to form a design brief for a new home that truly reflected how they want to live.
The team went beyond simply catering to the accommodation and budget requirements on paper, they sought to create an inspiring space with architectural elements to delight the owners and their visitors.

Through carefully controlling the design footprint and value engineering, we successfully delivered a design to budget with the ability to create the design features that our clients valued highly.
