The Site

Our clients wanted to redevelop their current home and site into a modern home for their family, but a couple of logistical challenges had to first be resolved in order to create their dream abode.
The 569sqm site was formed in a unique kite-shaped envelope with a narrow 9m frontage, escalating to a generous 25m rear boundary.

Adding a further challenge to the mix, the existing residence adjoined the neighbouring residence, presenting two separate homes as one building bound by party walls and roof cover.

Extensive engagement with the neighbour was therefore integral to achieving our client’s desire for a new family home.

THE BRIEF

Our clients, a family of four, sought the benefits of a humble, relaxing, and well-zoned home that could enhance both work and play.
Running their own business from home meant a customised home office space was imperative. Meanwhile, a well thought out and zoned layout would enable function and privacy for a growing family.

A dedicated entertainment room for viewing movies and sports was a must, along with the space to entertain in numbers. A three car garage was designed to additionally accommodate storage for their active lifestyle, including paddle skis and sporting goods.

THE EXECUTION

We carefully considered the brief and budget and prescribed a design that would anticipate the family’s evolving lifestyle. We did the leg work needed to change to the property tenure, converting a “Build-Strata” to “Survey Strata” so the home’s title was no longer common to the neighbours.
This meant the home’s could be separated, giving us the green light to project manage the demolition and rectification of the neighbour’s dwelling. This freed up our clients to commence the creation of their new home, which features a striking elevation of strong lines and geometric shapes.

A dramatic black and white contrasting render scheme makes this a true statement residence. It features all the items on the family’s wishlist, with a ground floor encompassing a three-car garage with plenty of storage, home office, media room, master suite, a kitchen with adjoining scullery and entertaining-friendly living spaces. A well-zoned teenage wing offers the privacy of a living room and two large bedrooms, each with a study nook, walk-in robes and individual ensuites.
